Entry Level Civil Engineer (EIT) for design activities on water and sewer systems, waste water treatment plants, subdivisions, land development, roads, highways, bridges, utility pipelines, and storm water management facilities. Project Site Inspector will perform engineering and technical inspections of public works and utility projects with an emphasis on water and sewer infrastructure construction.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - CIVIL ENGINEER
- Basic knowledge of water and sewer systems, waste water treatment plants, grading, designing utilities & roads, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and associated fields.
- Perform civil engineering design calculations and details for various infrastructure and construction projects.
- Design profiles and cross-sections using surveys to represent elevations, topographical contours, and proposed structures.
- Prepare rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data for project engineers and ensure accuracy and conformity to desired design concepts.
- Prepare and submit permit applications to various government agencies.
- Determine the order of work and method of presentation for all proposed projects including subdivisions, land development, utility pipeline projects.
- Calculate excavation quantities; prepare graphs and cut-fill analysis diagrams for use in earth-moving operations.
- Work under the supervision of senior staff to produce quality designs and plans, and interpreting plans from other engineering related disciplines (survey, utility, etc.)
- Explain drawings to senior project engineers and managers or construction teams and provide adjustments and revisions as necessary.
- Prepare quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates to aid with construction and project approvals.
- Support staff in assigned project based work.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS – CIVIL ENGINEER
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Entry level to two (2) years experience in civil engineering design preferred.
- Basic skill level using Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software.
- Proficiency with AutoDESK AutoCAD Land Desktop or Civil 3D is a plus.
- Must possess and EIT certification or have the ability to take the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam within six months of hire. EIT preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work independently at times and as a part of a multidisciplinary team of others.
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office business software, including Word, Excel, etc.
- Typing/word processing skills and proficient with email and internet
- Data management.
- Verbal and written communication skills required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES – PROJECT SITE INSPECTOR
- Ensure that all new construction is completed in accordance with contract documents, permit requirement, approved material list, and approved shop drawings.
- Prepare Daily Inspection Reports documenting the progress of work along with photos of the work if required.
- Witness required field tests and ensure all tests are performed in accordance with contract requirements.
- Attend project progress meetings, and associated project-related meetings.
- Interact with regulatory agency personnel
- Perform final inspection, prepare a final Punch List, and ensure all items on Punch List be completed or corrected by the contractor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS – PROJECT SITE INSPECTOR
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to read construction drawings and system maps
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are typical for a professional office environment. Additionally the candidate will be required to work outside, as needed, in typical weather conditions relative to the location of the project.
